Women of Vision Art Show
Inspiration Surrounds Us
“What Inspires You About Art?” was a question posed and answered by 12 local women artists who submitted original work for display and sale at our ECSHA sponsored “Women of Vision Art Show” held in conjunction with the Historic Home Tour on September 27. These events were part of the year’s celebration activities for Johnstown’s 250th Anniversary in 2008.
The art show was held in the third floor ballroom of the 1907 Arts & Crafts home owned by ECSHA founder Lori Salamack and family. We solicited work from 12 local artists, working in a variety of styles and mediums, to showcase the artistic talent we have right here in the Mohawk Valley.
Participating in the show were artists: Mary Cleland, Marilyn Fairman, Dolores Haberek, Alexandra Higgins, Linda Hinkle, Gretchen Dawson Jewell, Linda Kollar, Juliet Konieczny, Chris Nelson, Dorothy Quick, Cindy Sheeler, and Lynne Sweet.

Also on display was an original drawing created by Mayor Sarah Slingerland, which was for sale through a silent auction. The drawing was of the historic home at 9 S. William Street where Susan B. Anthony lived in 1884 while she and Johnstown’s most famous daughter, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, worked on the third volume of their “History of Woman Suffrage.” This unique drawing was signed by Mayor Slingerland and by Coline Jenkins, the great-great granddaughter of Stanton. Johnstown resident and artist Marilyn Fairman, who exhibited two landscapes in this art show, offered the winning bid.
We also wish to acknowledge and thank the artists who have helped our organization get started: Lisa Curet of Oakland, CA created the original poster; Daryl Roby rendered our “Welcome Home ECS” button; and Linda Hinkle designed our logo and this website.
