A Hometown Welcome
“Celebrating Johnstown’s Elizabeth Cady Stanton and the Right To Vote” touts each one of these avenue banners in colors representing the suffragist flag: purple signifying justice, gold for courage, and white denoting purity of purpose. Each banner is sponsored by a donation from the following groups and individuals.
The Elizabeth Cady Stanton Hometown Association invited the public and all sponsors and sponsor group members to a Women’s Equality Banner Raising event on Saturday, March 13. Gathering at the plaque honoring Elizabeth Cady Stanton, near the Information Booth in the park on W. Main Street, Johnstown, the new avenue banners which will be displayed in downtown Johnstown from March through August were unveiled. Linda Hinkle, a Johnstown graphic artist and ECSHA member, created the banner design. These banners honor the legacy of Elizabeth Cady Stanton in her hometown, gracing the city streets and welcoming visitors to this historic birthplace of women's rights.
